Shree Morarji Ranchhodji Desai Arts & Commerce College was established in 1993 with a view to furnish the needs of higher education of the local & tribal community. The mission of spreading new knowledge with an equal amalgamation and understanding of tribal culture began with the strength of only 485 students in July 1993.

With the passage of time the institution developed into one of the most outstanding academic centre in the newly formed Tapi district with more than 800 students out of which about 98% belong to tribal community as enrolled during the year 2007-2008 and 2008-2009..

Spread on the areas of 5 acres of land amidst natural surroundings the campus of the college would remind anyone of Tagore’s Shanti Niketan. The college is situated in peaceful and serene area and offers ample opportunities to the students who aspire to study a variety of subjects in the Arts stream with Gujarati as the medium of instruction.

We have two principal departments at undergraduate level and a post graduate centre in the subject of Gujarati and Hindi. The college also offers a host of interdisciplinary subjects along with compulsory languages.

The college is affiliated to V.N.S.G.U. and as such follows the curriculum designed by it. With an adequate, highly qualified and experienced fulltime lecturers, the college makes constant efforts to impart high quality education to its students.

Being an institution situated in the rural area and having 98% coming from socially disadvantaged classes, we have to face sundry problems which hinder our progress and growth. However, we may not have produced scholars and stalwarts and toppers but as the law of generality we cater the need of general average students or the masses belonging to backward sections of society who turn their foot steps to higher education after passing on higher secondary exams with average results. Ours is an effort to make higher education more fruitful and useful to the society by providing opportunities of overall development to the students belonging to deprived classes. We make sincere efforts to overcome all our limitations and barriers and to achieve new heights year after year.
